An electrical device, such as an electrochemical cell (4) which comprises a conductive anode (2) and cathode (3) capable of mutual electrochemical reaction and separated by a solid electrolyte (1) comprising:n a) a matrix of cross-linked polymer main chains, optionally having side-chains linked to the main chains, which side chains comprise polar groups free from active hydrogen atoms, b) a polar aprotic liquid dispersed in the matrix, and c) an ionised ammonium or alkali metal salt dissolved in the matrix and/or liquid, n characterised in that the liquid is present as at least 300 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the matrix, na cathode therefor, the electrolyte per se, and processes for the preparation of the electrolyte and the cathode. |
