titleOfInvention High speed drill spindle
abstract A high speed spindle is provided comprising a rotor driven by an electric motor and provided with conical pins (19, 20) mounted in conical rubber bearings (22, 23). Lubricating water flows in said bearings through calibrated openings (49, 54) made in the trunnions, and flows from said openings through reverse helical grooves (56, 58) in the trunnions which have a reduced cross section. The water flowing through the rotor cools the rotor as well as a tool gripped by the collet (12). Rubber seals (83, 87) arranged around the rotor shaft (17) wear out until zero clearance occurs during running-in so as to limit the water which discharges from the bearings. Compressed air introduced into the spindle cooperates with said seals in order to prevent water leaks. Said compressed air also reacts against a bladder (114) arranged so as to impose a terminal load on one of the bearings, which is movable, so that said bearing moves towards its journal. The forces are varied so as to increase the terminal load of the bearing when the speed of the rotor increases. The collet is characterized by self-supporting cones (136, 139) for retaining in a closed position, cam surfaces (148, 149) helping it to open to a released position. A detachable member retains the collet so that it can be removed and thus remove a fractured rod.
