abstract A new process for the preparation of piperazinylpyrimidine derivatives of the general formula I is described wherein R₁ represents a hydrogen atom or a C₁-C₄ alkyl group, branched or unbranched. In this process, piperazine or its hydrate is converted into an amidine salt with cyanamide and this is then reacted with a carbonyl compound in the presence of a base to give the end product.
