In the process described, which serves to produce tertiary amine/sulfur trioxide complexes, represented by the general formula: R3N:SO3, where R represents a methyl, ethyl or propyl group or a heterocyclic closed chain moiety contained in pyridine, chlorosulfonic acid is added to dissolve a tertiary amine in a chlorinated organic solvent. To extract the amine from the amine hydrochloride which has previously formed as a by-product, gaseous ammonia is fed into the reaction mixture. This measure makes it possible to considerably increase the yields of the process. Ammonium chloride is formed as a by-product. |
