Methods for treating cocaine dependence, the acute effects of cocaine, and the need to absorb cocaine in mammals through the use of a cocaine antagonist having the general formula (I). Treatment methods can counteract cocaine intoxication and may prevent a repeat use of the drug during and after treatment. Preferably, (1- [2- [bis (4-fluorophenyl) -methoxy] ethyl] -4- [3-phenylpropyl] -piperizine is administered from 0.1 mg to 100 mg per kilogram of body weight per day. |
