abstract The production process consists of forming a droplet consisting of water, cyclodextrin and a base in a non-polar solvent such as methyl isobutin ketone using polyvinyl butyral as an emulsifier. A crosslinking agent such as epichlorohydrin reacts with cyclodextrin to form a spherical bead having a surface substantially free of chemically bound emulsifying agent. Polycyclodextrin beads can be used in chromatographic columns and as an agent for removing polychlorinated biphenyl compounds from the environment.
