titleOfInvention | Shelf stable aspirin solutions |
abstract | The present invention describes an aspirin solution which is stable to the liberation of fragments which react to aspirin, and which can be applied locally to the skin. This solution consists of aspirin, N, N-diethyl-m-toluamide USP (DEET), glyceryl triacetate USP (GTA) and acetic anhydride, provided that where GTA is present at least 20 parts of DEET are also so and that, once all the components have been mixed, the solution obtained contains an initial quantity varying between approximately 1 and approximately 0.2 parts of acetic anhydride. The solution is produced by preparing a solvent component containing at least N, N-diethyl-m-toluamide USP (DEET) and, if necessary, glyceryl triacetate USP (GTA), provided however that where GTA is present, at least 20 parts of DEET are too. Then analyzing said solvent mixture to determine the hydroxyl content, a sufficient amount of acetic anhydride to obtain between 1 and about 0.2 parts of non-reactive acetic anhydride is added to the solution after dissolution in it of 1 aspirin, and the aspirin is dissolved in this mixture. |
