abstract The sewage-treatment plant described has a flotation vessel which is divided by a concentric partition (2) into a central chamber (3b) and an outer annular chamber (3a). The sewage, mixed with air and a flocculating agent, is pumped tangentially into the annular chamber (3a) through an inlet pipe (9) located at the bottom of the chamber (3a) and flows in a spiral up through the annular chamber (3a) and subsequently over the upper edge of the partition (2) into the central chamber (3b). The flocculent precipitate floating on the surface of the water passes into an outlet pipe (4), forming a vortex in the water surface, while the water which has been cleared of precipitate (purified water) passes out through an outlet (5) located lower down.
