abstract | Process for the preparation of saccharide compositions. The method is repetitive and comprises the following three steps: (i) isolating a glycosyltransferase capable of transferring to a accepting half a preselected saccharide unit by bringing said half into contact with a mixture suspected of containing the glycosyltransferase under suitable conditions binding said half and said glycosyltransferase and therefore isolating the latter, the accepting half being a protein, a glycoprotein, a lipid, a glycolipid or a carbohydrate; (ii) using the isolated glycosyltransferase to catalyze the bond between the acceptor half and the preselected saccharide unit; and (iii) repeating (i) and (ii) a plurality of times, the intermediate product obtained during the first iteration of the process serving as half acceptor during the second iteration. |
