abstract A coating apparatus having a valve means disposed to a paint supply line extended from a paint supply source to a coating machine for controlling the flow rate of a paint in accordance with the flow rate of a paint discharged from the coating machine, wherein the valve means comprises a needle valve (6) which is urged to close a flow channel (8) of a paint by a spring, solenoid coils (14) actuatable to attract a movable core (12) secured to the needle valve (6) in the direction of opening the flow channel (8) against the resiliency of the spring (10) and a pulse generator (13) connected to the solenoid coils (14) for generating energizing pulses at a predetermined pulse period in accordance with the flow rate of a paint discharged from the coating machine when electric pulses are inputted to the solenoid coils (14).
