A metal chelate compound comprising a disazo compound of general formula (I) and a metal; wherein A is a residue which forms a heterocycle together with the carbon and nitrogen atoms to which it is bonded; X is a residue which forms an aromatic ring together with the two carbons to which it is bonded; D is an aromatic residue or a heterocyclic amine residue each of which may be substituted; and Y is an active hydrogen group, and an optical recording medium composed of a substrate and, provided thereon, a recording layer capable of writing and/or reading information by means of laser beams,wherein the recording layer contains a metal chelate compound comprising a disazo compound of formula (I) and a metal. |
