abstract |
A bacterial composition useful for the preparation or preservation of forage contains a silage or hay bacterial inoculant and a humectant. Particularly useful inoculants include the anti-fungal bacterial of the genus Serratia and lactic acid-producing bacteria of the genus Lactobacillus . Particularly useful humectants include sorbitol, propylene glycol, glycerol and hexametaphosphate. Forage e.g. baled hay containing the composition shows improved storage stability at a moisture content in the range 18-30% by weight. |
