abstract This invention relates to a process for producing alpha-hydroxy ketones by condensation of one or more aldehydes in a liquid reaction system in the presence of an active condensation catalyst wherein the catalyst upon deactivation is reactivated by removal of water therefrom and recycled to the reaction system. nDihydroxyacetone is a vital raw material for the production of glycerol.
