The invention relates to a method of using dyes based on thiazine and xanthene, in order to selectively inactivate or inhibit the intracellular replication of specific viruses, in particular of the human immunodeficiency virus. Mention may be made, as examples of useful xanthine dyes, of bengal pink and eosin Y. Methylene blue constitutes a preferred thiazine dye. Said dyes impede the transcription and translation of viral nucleic acid. Light entering the skin to the capillaries at the surface can be used to increase the activity of the dye. |
