titleOfInvention | Aqueous dispersions of synthetic resins |
abstract | Aqueous dispersions of synthetic resins, consisting of A) 35 to 60 wt. % of synthetic resin, are obtained by radical polymerization in solution, carried out in separate spaces and/or consecutively but in the same space, of 15 to 70 parts by weight of a mixture of monomers A1 and 30 to 85 parts by weight of a mixture of monomers A2, having the following compostion: A1: a) 1.5 to 15 % of at least one monomer of α,β-monoethylenically unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acids containing 3 to 5 carbon atoms, anhydrides of these carboxylic acids or half-esters of these dicarboxylic acids with alkanols or glycol monoethers carrying 1 to 8 carbon atoms (monomers I); b) 65 to 98.5 wt. % of at least one acrylic and/or methacrylic acid ester of C1-C10 alkanols (monomers II); c) 0 to 10 wt. % of one or more acrylic and/or acid esters of C11-C20 alkanols (monomers III); d) 0 to 20 wt. % of one or more vinyl methacrylic aromatic monomers (monomers IV); e) 0 to 5 wt. % of one or more mecaptosilanes of general formula (I) (monomers V), in which the variables have the following meaning: n = 1 to 8, R1, R2 denote hydrogen and/or C¿1?-C4 alkyl groups, R?3, R4, R5¿ denote C¿1?-C6 alkoxyl groups R?1¿ and/or C¿1?-C6 alkoxy groups, provided that at least one of the residues R?3 to R5¿ is an alkoxy group; and f) 0 to 10 wt. % of one or more other copolymerizable monomers (monomers VI). A2: a) 60 to 100 wt. % of at least one monomer II; b) 0 to 10 wt. % of one or more monomers; c) 0 to 30 wt. % of one or more monomers IV and VI; and d) 0 to 5 wt. % of one or more monomers V; provided that the sum of A1 and A2 contains more than 65 % of its weight of such monomers II whose homopolymerizates have a glass transition temperature of 0 to -70°C, and a quantity of monomers V which is not equal to zero; B) referred to synthetic resin A, 0.05 to 5 wt. % is at least one silane of general formula (II), in which R6 is a residue carrying an epoxy group; C) effective quantities of ammonia and/or an organic amine; D) 0 to 5 wt. % of a non-aqueous solvent; E) the remainder as water. Films of these synthetic resin dispersions can be used as adhesives. |
