Alkyl- or aryl-terminated polyamide compositions and polyamide rheological additives that function as a sag/slump control agent and provide superior shear-thinning and viscosity recovery properties in systems that react with or are sensitive to water or other active hydrogen containing materials and systems that do not react with or are not sensitive to water or other active hydrogen containing materials, and are useful in sealants, caulks, adhesives and coatings, are obtained by reactingn 1) polycarboxylic acids with monoamines, 2) polycarboxylic acids with both mono- and polyamines, 3) polyamines with monocarboxylic acids, or 4) polyamines with both mono- and polycarboxylic acids. n In an example, a mixture of dimerized fatty acids and sebacic acid is reacted with octadecylamine. The amide product is used in polyurethane sealant formulations. |
