The phoP gene and its equivalents are of a type exhibiting "global regulation of pathogenicity", that is to say, they regulate in a coordinated manner a certain number of genes including those encoding virulence factors bacterial. In Salmonella, the product of said phoP gene also regulates the expression of a non-specific acid phosphatase originating from the phoN gene. A major characteristic of the invention relates to avirulent microorganisms resulting, in whole or in part, from a mutation in phoP, but retaining their immunogenic power. These cells can serve as components of live vaccines. |
