titleOfInvention | STABLE REFERENCE SOLUTION OF HEMOGLOBIN. |
abstract | We describe a stable reference solution to sample and control blood gas measurement methods. Said solution comprises an aqueous mixture, containing a hemoglobin solution derived from a mammalian source, which contains at least about 95% reduced hemoglobin. The solution further contains a bicarbonate buffer system, a metal catalyzed methemoglobin reduction system and an organic buffer. To obtain a control element having several properties similar to fresh and whole human blood, said reference solution is stored in a sealed ampoule, in an inert medium containing CO2, just before its use. The ampoule is then opened to balance said solution with a gaseous mixture having components which provide physiological gases to the solution. The solution is characterized after balancing by properties similar to that of fresh blood and has a long shelf life before balancing. |
