The invention relates to an H45 protein complex, the components of which are glycoproteins which can be isolated from the intestinal membrane of microvillus plasma of a parasitic nematode, such as Haemonchus contortus. This complex comprises the protein H4.5, having an apparent molecular mass determined by electrophoresis on a polyacrylamide of sodium dodecyl sulphate gel (SDS-PAGE), of approximately 45 Kd under reduction conditions, and of approximately 90 Kd in non-reduction conditions, as well as proteins H4.9 and H5.3 having apparent molecular weights determined according to SDS-PAGE, of approximately 49 Kd and approximately 53 Kd respectively, both under reduction conditions and under conditions of non-reduction. The H45 protein complex and its components can be used, optionally with the already known protein doublet H110D, to form a vaccine which can reduce the weight of worms in sheep infected with Haemonchus contortus, on average by 91% as well as parasite production, on average 94.5%. |
