A method for determining the presence of a target nucleotide sequence in a sample of genetic material comprising placing the sample, in which the genetic material has been made available in single-stranded form, in contact, under hybridisation conditions, with a nucleotide probe substantially complementary to the target sequence, and detecting the formation of a probe/target hybrid, in which the probe/target hybrid is detected with the use of a monoclonal or polyclonal anti-nucleic-acid antibody adapted electively to distinguish double-stranded nucleotide sequences from single-stranded sequences. |
