A stable oxygen transport medium comprising haem proteins is obtainable by treating a haem protein with a primary cross-linking reagent to achieve a significant level of protein coupling and form polymers thereof, and modifying the polymerising protein to attain an acceptable level of oxygen affinity wherein the modification is carried out during polymerisation or as a sequential step. |
