titleOfInvention | Melamine grafted fire and drip resistant polyamide thermoplastics |
abstract | A fire retardant graft polymer having resistance to dripping and puddling on exposure to fire and the method of making such graft polymer comprising of from about 10%-35% by weight of melamine and a thermoplastic polyamide. The graft polymer is formed under conditions of controlled incipient depolymerization for the polyamide. The melting point of the polyamide is not reduced more than 30°C during the making of the fire retardant graft polymer. The physical properties of the thermoplastic are not degraded even though a high concentration of melamine is contained in the final graft polymer. An additional organic compound which does not inhibit the formation of the melamine-polyamide graft can also be grafted to the polyamide. |
