Osmotically dependent vesicles |
abstract |
The invention relates to liposomal vesicles of osmotic origin loaded with an active agent. Liposomes, including a trapped osmotic agent, are contacted one or more times with a wash solution which is hypotonic for the trapped osmotic agent and which contains an active agent. The osmotic agent trapped in the liposome and the active agent in the washing solution are present in concentrations which cause the liposomes to swell, rupture under osmotic pressure, the spillage of the osmotic agent into the washing solution and reform to encapsulate the active agent. |
