Difluorobenzonitriles have the formula (I), wherein Y represents alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy, oxaalkyl or alkenyloxy having between 1 and 12 carbon atoms; and Q is a residue selected from the group consisting of one of the elements represented by the formulas (a), (b), (c), (d), (e), (f), (g), (h) , (i), (j), and (k). These compounds are useful as components of liquid crystal media. |
