The method and apparatus described, which are used to carry out continuous chemical reactions, consist in bringing a mixture of reagents into a microwave heating zone and in regulating the supply rate, the supply pressure or the arrival of energy supplied by the microwaves, so that a desired chemical reaction takes place at a predetermined temperature in the supply mixture. An apparatus for carrying out the method includes a pump (105) for passing the reagents through a conduit (102, 103, 104), a section (103) of which passes through a microwave heater (106, 107). The section through which the pipe effluent (104) passes contains a heat exchanger (109) and a pressure regulating member (110). The apparatus operates under the control of a microprocessor (112), which allows the operator to adjust predetermined operating parameters. |
