A compound having the formula [(R₃SiO)₂₋SiR₋(CH₂) a ] b N⁺R'₄ -b X⁻ wherein R is an alkyl radical having one to six carbon atoms; R' is an alkyl or aryl radical having one to eighteen carbon atoms; X is chloride, bromide, iodide, nitrate or RSO₄⁻; a is an integer having a value from one to ten; and b is an integer having a value of two or three. A method of reducing the surface tension of an aqueous solution is also disclosed in which an effective amount of one of the above described compounds is added to the aqueous solution. |
