Various genes have been identified for the herpes turkey virus (HVT), Marek's disease virus (MDV) and infectious laryngotracheitis virus (ILTV) as nonessential (and therefore candidate for) regions. insertion into these sites of foreign genes) and / or regions encoding an antigen. Nonessential regions include the HVT homolog of the simple herpes virus (HSV) gC gene, the TK (thymidine kinase) region of MDV or ILTV, the ORTV of ILTV (as defined here), the ribonucleotide reductase gene (large subunit) of ILTV, MDV or HVT and the ribonucleotide reductase gene (small subunit) of MDV. Antigen coding regions include the HVT homologs of the HSV gB, gC and gH genes, the ILTV homologs of the HSV gB, the ILTV ORF2, and the HVT homolog of the early IE-175 genes and HSV-1 IE-68. Using these genes, vaccines can be prepared which include attenuated viruses or viruses which carry sequences encoding a heterologous antigen. |
