The present invention is concerned with a process for preparing a fluid composition containing a chemically setting gelling agent, wherein a liquid containing the gelling agent is chemically set, whilst subjecting said liquid to sufficient shear to obtain a substantially less rigid composition than would have been obtained by chemically setting the liquid under quiescent conditions, on the understanding that if the gelling agent is sodium alginate, the gelling agent is chemically set at a temperature above 30 DEG C. The fluid compositions obtained by the present process possess favourable rheological properties which are particularly appreciated when these fluid compositions are incorporated in, for instance, skin creams, moisturizer lotions, spreads, etc. |
