The optical biosensor is based on fluorescence energy transfer and consists of n n a) a solid support, n b) a monolayer or multilayer Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) film applied to a), n c) at least one fluorescent dye F1 which is located in at least one of the upper 4 layers of the LB film, n d) a molecule (receptor) which is capable of specific interaction and is bound or located in or on the uppermost layer of the LB film, and n e) a mobile fluorescent dye F2 whose excitation band overlaps sufficiently for energy transfer with the emission band of F1 and which n n e1) is covalently bonded to a ligand which is able to bind to the receptor or which n e2) is covalently bonded to another receptor which is able to bind to the complex of the first receptor and ligand, n n where the ligand or the ligand and the second receptor are not initially bound to the LB film. |
