Compounds of the formulan wherein nR and R˝ which may be the same or different, are each hydrogen, alkyl, alkaryl, aralkyl, cycloakyl, or aryl; nR′ is alkylene, alkarylene, aralkylene, cycloalkylene, or arylene; nR‴ is alkyl, aryl, or cycloalkyl, n n is 0, 1, or 2; and nG is a residue of a carbonyl-containing organic compound bonded to said nitrogen atom N through a carbon atom, can be prepared by reacting a carbonyl-containing organic compound (carboxylic acid, ester, anhydride, ketone or aldehyde) with an amine of the formula n n The product compound can be subsequently reacted with an inorganic oxide substrate and optionally a salt of a metal of Group 1B or VIII. The resulting products effecting catalyze oxidative carbonylation reactions, e.g. the formation of dimethyl carbonate from methanol. |
