4-tert-butyl-cyclohexanol is obtained by a process which consists in the hydrogenation of 4-tert-butyl-phenol or 4-tert-butyl-cyclohexanone in the presence of a catalytic system consisting of rhodium on a support of Al₂O₃, SiO₂, TiO₂, SiO₂.Al₂O₃ or carbon, in combination with HBF₄ or BF₃. [Y] n , Y denoting the group R₂O, R being a lower alkyl group from C₁ to C₆, or the group CH₃CO₂H, H₃PO₄ or H₂O and the index n being zero, 1 or 2.n n n The above-mentioned catalytic system has the advantage of being easily recyclable and having a long service life while allowing a high degree of selectivity to be achieved. |
