Gases may be separated from liquids by permeation through a membrane comprising (i) vinyl alcohol cross-linked by an aliphatic polyaldehyde having at least three carbon atoms, or (ii) a silicone or silicone-polycarbonate. A pressure differential is maintained across the membrane between a high pressure charge side and a low pressure discharge side. n The process is especially suitable for separating acid gases (e.g. hydrogen sulfide or, preferably, carbon dioxide) from alcohols (e.g. methanol). |
