titleOfInvention | Method and apparatus for precision laser surgery |
abstract | A system for performing a precision laser surgical operation, includes an intensified surgical video microscope oriented on the tissue to be operated, and equipped with a zoom so that the camera can alternately display easily recognizable landmarks with the possibility to enlarge, without the need for additional lighting and without having to get any closer to the object, any part of the imaging field while positioning the imaging lens of the objective at the same practical distance from the patient or tissue. The surgical microscope presents surgical imagery on a video screen in front of the surgeon. Said video screen is preferably divided into separate multiple parts, the microscopic video image being in one part, and the location indicating precise cross-sectional and plan views being presented in the other parts of the screen. These additional views can be produced by moire interferometer, by projection of a Ronchi generator on the surface of the tissue, such as the cornea of an eye when viewing the projection with the camera in order to obtain all the information. necessary to follow the outline of the object's surface. The elements and the interior interfaces, for example of the eye, are also detected by a beam of light, then localized and mapped with precision by a computer forming part of the device. The imaging system of the invention allows the surgeon to have in front of him abundant visual information displayed on the video screen, precisely indicating permanently in three dimensions, where a focused surgical laser beam is oriented. In addition, the surgeon has, in one embodiment of the invention, a template library created by computer software. These templates are created from experiences of successful surgical operations of the type envisaged, and allow the surgeon to place themselves precisely on the tissues |
