A glass fiber textile strand having thereon the dried residue of a aqueous-based binder of starch and oil is described. The starches are conventional, the oil is a nonionic lubricant which is a hydrogenated vegetable oil, and/or fatty acid ester of non-polymeric polyhydric alcohols and/or mineral oil. The starch is present in an amount greater than 35 weight percent of the nonaqueous components of the binder and the oil is present in an amount greater than 25 weight percent of the nonaqueous components. The binder also contains a non-starch film former, cationic lubricant other than alkyl imidazoline reaction product of tetraethylene pentamine and stearic acid, and at least one suitable emulsifier for the oil. The binder may also have an organoalkoxysilane or its hydrolysis products and a biocide. |
