titleOfInvention Analysis of cell modifying substances
abstract Extracellular cell modifiers such as hormones (and autoantibodies mimicking their effects) are titrated by adding them to a cell culture containing a cellular component the activity or amount of which is sensitive to this cell modifying agent, and then measures the change in the cellular component by the use of an appropriate colorimetric or chromogenic reagent. The method is suitably implemented in the wells of a microtiter plate using a colorimetric or chromogenic reagent which can be measured spectrophotometrically. The colored product is eluted from the cells into the wells and the spectrophotometric measurements are read directly from the wells with a microtiter plate reader.
