The invention relates to a family of composites suitable for use as construction materials for implantable medical devices. In the most preferred embodiment, the substrate polymer is an ortho esther polymer formed by the reaction of a ketene acetal having functionality of two or more with a polyol. Likewise, in the most preferred embodiment, the reinforcing material in the composites consists of calcium-sodium metaphosphate ("CSM") fibers. In other embodiments, the composites can replace either the substrate or the reinforcement (but not both) with materials of the art. |
