Preparation of 1-hydroxyimidazoles of the general formula I in which the radicals R can be identical or different and represent halogen or organic radicals, where vicinal radicals can also be linked to form an aromatic ring or a non-aromatic ring having 3 to 12 ring carbon atoms, and n has a value of 0 to 3 by using an imidazole of the general formula II in which Q represents hydrogen or, if R is not halogen, an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal cation, is reacted with an organic peroxide.n n n The process products are valuable intermediates for organic syntheses. |
