abstract | An ultrasonic air-in-line detection sysstem for use in detecting air bubbles in the fluid line of a disposable cassette (302) mounted on a main pump unit. The outlet tubing (306) at the bottom of the cassette is automatically loaded into a slot (808, 816) in an ultrasonic sensor housing (800, 814) when the cassette is installed on the main pump unit. The system uses a tubing adaptor (301) mounted on the outlet tube (306) below the cassette (302), with the tubing adaptor having a tapered top end. The tubing adaptor (301) interacts with a pair of ramps (820, 822) located on the bottom and front of the ultrasonic sensor housing (814) around the slot (816) to draw the tubing adaptor (301) into a recess (818) located on the bottom of the ultrasonic sensor housing (814), thereby drawing the outlet tubing (306) fully into the slot (808, 816) between an ultrasonic transmitter (866) and an ultrasonic receiver (868) in the ultrasonic sensor housing (800) when the cassette is installed. |
