HYPERTENSITIVE FACTOR OF PARATHYROID. |
abstract |
A new circulation factor has been isolated and characterized from the parathyroid gland of certain hypertensive mammals. Polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies developed against this factor can be used as screens determining the presence of said factors. Said factor plays a role in regulating the fixation of calcium in cells. Hypertensive mammals can be treated to lower average blood pressure by administering a calcium channel blocking agent with a supplement of calcium and / or vitamin D. The hypotensive effect of this combination is synergistic, and the reaction to a dose is more predictable than the administration of any of these agents individually. |
