Non-woody biomass is delignified using extrusion technology, using hydrogen peroxide and an alkaline agent, to decompose complex biomass materials. The method is useful for forming a highly absorbent fiber material used as dietary fiber or absorbent fiber. In another embodiment, the method is useful for preparing fodder for ruminant animals, and producing a wide range of alcohols or polymers from the non-woody lignocellulosic substrate. |
