| abstract |
A component for a lower limb prosthesis allowing rotation of the foot relative to the shin about an axis extending longitudinally of the prosthesis has a cylindrical sleeve (12), bonded inside a distal end portion of a shin tube (14), and a housing (18) rotatably received in the sleeve (12) for connection to an ankle or foot assembly. A torsion element (10) in the form of a thermoplastics bar or tube located on the longitudinal axis of the shin tube (14) has one end fixed to the sleeve (12) and the other end fixed to the housing (18) so that rotation of the housing (18) with respect to the sleeve (12) is dependent on the applied torque and the stiffness of the torsion element (10). |
