titleOfInvention Electrochemical cell for sensing fluids
abstract A cell for sensing fluids (water, alcohol and aldehyde) is held at a potential of 2V and, on exposure, passes a current of reproducible magnitude according to the fluid content. The cell comprises a silver cathode (5), an inert electronically conductive anode (2) and a silver -iodide/silvermetal oxide (e.g Ag₇I₄AsO₄) solid electrolyte (4). The metal oxide is one or more of tungstate, chromate, molybdate, vanadate, borate, selenate, arsenate and phosphate.
