abstract Diagnostic assays for the detection and determination of either component of the Δ-6 desaturase antigen-antibody reaction are described which are useful in the assessment of a wide range of clinical conditions, including atopic eczema and premenstrual syndrome, wherein reduced levels of metabolites of linoleic acid may be attributable to a partial deficiency of the Δ-6 desaturase enzyme. The assays include various immunoassays.
