abstract |
An adhesion additive for use with ultraviolet radiation curable siloxane compositions is the reaction product of an alkoxysilicon compound, a hydroxyl endblocked poly(diorganosiloxane) and a catalyst for the reaction between silicon-bonded alkoxy and silanol groups. Alkoxy silicon compounds can be those of the formula n(RO)₃Si-X-Si(OR)₃ nwherein X can be ethylene and -OR is an alkoxy group. Ultraviolet radiation curable siloxane compositions with improved adhesion are obtained by mixing the adhesion additive with a mixture which has at least one ultraviolet radiation activatable siloxane polymer and a photoinitiator. These compositions can be used as optical fiber coatings, conformal coatings and other coating applications where adhesion to a substrate is important. |
