Aluminum hydroxide, process for its production and composition |
abstract |
Aluminum hydroxide having a particle size of 2 to 30 νm and a small specific surface area and exhibiting a low viscosity when filled in a resin is produced by pulverizing precipitated aluminum hydroxide in a secondary agglomeration state having a primary particle diameter substantially the same as the mean particle diameter of intended aluminum hydroxide particles. The resulting aluminum hydroxide has a mean particle diameter of 2 to 30 νm, a surface roughness coefficient, SR/SC (wherein SR represents a specific surface area of particles measured according to the nitrogen absorption method, and SC represents a specific surface area calculated from the particle diameter based on approximation to an equivalent sphere in consideration of the particle size distribution of the particles), of less than 2.5, and a linseed oil absorption as calculated according to JIS K 5101 of 30 cc/100 g or less. This aluminum hydroxide can be filled in a thermosetting or thermoplastic resin to give a composition for manufacturing artificial marble. |
