The mammalian GAP-43 (axonal growth protein) cDNA was produced by cloning. The invention relates to the nucleotide sequences and the corresponding amino acid sequences of human GAP-43 and murine GAP-43. These essentially pure sequences can be expressed in prokaryotes and in host eukaryotes and serve to monitor and regulate neuronal growth in animals, including humans. A new membrane transport peptide is capable of transporting any protein or peptide desired to the cell membrane of neuronal or non-neuronal cells. These essentially pure sequences are useful in therapeutic and diagnostic methods. |
