abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of optically active 2-chloropropionic acid esters of formula COOR₁ being a hydrolyzable group starting from an optically active lactate of formula with configuration inversion by bringing the lactate (II) into contact with SOCl₂ then decomposition of the chlorosulfite formed, said process being characterized in that at least the decomposition step is carried out in the presence of ether.
