titleOfInvention Process for the step-wise membrane electrolysis of alkali-sulfate-containing aqueous solutions and plant for carrying out the process
abstract For the gradual membrane electrolysis of aqueous solutions containing alkali sulfate, these solutions are passed through a plurality of series-working 3-chamber electrolysis cells, each of which has an anode, a middle and a cathode chamber, which are separated from one another by two ion exchange membranes, and the solutions containing alkali sulfate are at least partially introduced into the central chamber of the first electrolytic cell, the electrolytic solutions being dialysed exclusively through cation exchange membranes at least in the first part of the electrolytic cells forming the series, and the electrolytic solution is removed from the central chamber of the last cell of the series and returned to the anode chamber of the first cell becomes. With this method, electricity yields of at least 80% are achieved.
