The present invention is directed to a substantially pure, approximately 52 kD protein that inhibits the activity of IL-1. The invention also provides a continuous cell line that produces the protein, and methods for its purification. The invention is also directed towards the use of the inhibitory protein, both in vitro and in vivo , in reducing the proliferation of leukocytes and inflammation as well as uses in immunosuppression and the treatment of cancer. |
