The invention relates to a polycyclic hydrocarbon of formulas (I) or (II) in which A represents O, N, or S; R represents H, a substituted or unsubstituted C1 to C8 alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C2 to C8 ester group or a substituted aryl group; Y represents H or SO3Z where Z is H or a halide, at least one Y being SO3Z and Z being a halide; R 'represents H, Y or A-R; and n is 0 or 1, at least one n being 1. The hydrocarbons can be coupled to a ligand or a ligand analog and be used in fluorescent immunoassays. |
